OwnCloud network drive is a cloud of files on your own server. It’s a very similar solution to Microsoft’s Google Drive or OneDrive, but with more options. What’s more, it is installed on its own server and not “somewhere” on the network.

File and folder management can be done using an extensive web application (via a web browser), as well as mobile applications for Android and iOS (Apple). On desktop computers, an application for automatic synchronization of local disk files with the server (cloud) is installed. Versions for Windows and Linux are available. Thanks to this, current versions of files are available on all devices connected to ownCloud. In addition to file synchronization and sharing, this solution is great as a backup of files from local computers.

In ownCloud, each user can have their own individual account, you can create user groups and share files between them. The management of multimedia files is also well-developed, you can stream movies and music and conveniently view photos. Documents such as DOC, XLS, PDF, RTF, TXT are easily opened on mobile devices.

It is possible to connect your ownCloud as a network drive to your computer – on both Windows and Linux you can “map” your ownCloud account as a network drive. It is then possible to copy and open files using a regular file manager: Windows File Explorer or Total Commander.

ownCloud is equipped with an application store. Most of the available applications are free but there are also commercial applications. The most popular applications are used to manage multimedia, organize time (calendar, contacts, tasks), share files and folders.

The ownCloud system is free and it is possible to download Android app for a small fee. All kinds of additions to this application are paid but they are not necessary for normal use.
